‘All American’ star Karimah Westbrook’s acting journey nearly took another turn

What do you think about your accomplishments thus far? Have you reflected on your journey during this quarantine time?

I feel very proud of myself. I don’t think I’ve ever really reflected much until now. You work so hard, and then you look up and say, “Wow, it’s been 20 years.” I still have many other goals that I’m looking forward to achieving. Looking at life and looking at my place, I remember when I lost everything. I was living in a room. I had rented a room from a friend because I lost everything, lost my job, and my car got towed. It was a domino effect. But when I reflect, I haven’t gone through a lot, and I feel I’ve achieved many of the dreams that I initially set out to do.

Lastly, what brought you comfort during this quarantine period?

Writing was my saving grace. Understanding the power of art can change your perspective. I distracted myself with [just] being artistic. I just emerged myself into writing and creating and doing things that felt good, for lack of a better word.
