The Atlanta Hawks franchise has a habit of generating excitement with in-game performances with past performances that include 2 Chainz, Future, Rae Sremmurd, Lecrae and Koryn Hawthorne. This season will be no different.
On Wednesday, Nov. 17, when the Hawks take on the Boston Celtics, they will also welcome multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated rapper Gunna, who will perform at halftime to the delight of State Farm Arena fans.
Gunna, a native of College Park (nine miles south of Atlanta), expressed pure joy over being able to entertain the fans and put on a show for the team he’s cheered for all his life.
“I’m excited to perform on the court of my home team,” Gunna said in an official statement provided by the Hawks. “Having the chance to also give back to the community through this performance means so much to me. Forever I Love Atlanta. Go Hawks!”
In an effort to show his undying support of the home team and the community that raised him, the 28-year-old agreed to be a part of outreach efforts that will reward guests with tickets to the contest. Gunna also collaborated with the Hawks to develop a limited-edition T-shirt that will be available at the Hawsk shop on site. The Gunna Drip Closet will also receive donated shirts on behalf of the Hawks. In addition to clothing and shoes, the Gunna Drip Closet offers vegan fare, shelf-stable foods, frozen meals, fresh produce, snacks and toiletries.
Gunna landed his first platinum hit record with the infectious “Drip Too Hard” (from the mixtape Drip Harder) and followed that up with WUNNA, his sophomore album, which charted #1 on the Billboard 200. The album featured the likes of Roddy Ricch, Lil Baby and Young Thug, among others.
Tickets are scarce for this game (presented by Planet Fitness) and it goes without saying that Gunnna’s arrival will incite unadulterated joy amongst fans and followers.
