HBO released the official trailer for its latest documentary, “DMX: Don’t Try to Understand,” on Friday, Nov. 19, 2021.
Set to premiere on Nov. 25, on HBO Max, the documentary will follow late rapper Earl “DMX” Simmons as he is released from prison for tax evasion in early 2019 and attempts to rebuild his career in the music industry and reconnect with family and fans.
It will give viewers and fans of DMX a look into the complicated life of the rapper, from his drug addiction to the way he handled money.
In the trailer, we also see the rap legend return to his hometown of Yonkers and encourage the youth there.
“I’m talking to you as a person who grew up right where you grew up at. I stole a car from right there,” he tells someone in a scene from the trailer before hugging an emotional fan and telling him, “Turn that pain into words.”
The documentary is directed by Christopher Frierson and is just one of six installments in the “Music Box” documentary series streaming exclusively on HBO Max.
The series kicked off in July with “Woodstock 99: Peace, Love And Rage,” and is set to conclude on Dec. 16 with a film about the late rapper Juice WRLD, who died of an accidental drug overdose, titled “Juice WRLD: Into The Abyss.”
