Grammy-nominated poet J. Ivy tells creatives to keep perfecting their craft

Ivy then referenced music pointing out that Nas’ Illmatic is widely regarded as one of the best albums in hip-hop history, and he was 17 when it was released.

“It doesn’t take away if an artist is is 18 or if they’re 80,” J. Ivy said. “If they created something that really touched your heart, then that’s what it is. That’s the point of us creating art [to] put into the world.”

The poet then continued to reassure creatives who are insecure about their age.

“Don’t trip on whatever age it is you are,” he said. “If you feel like you’re not where you you thought you would be at this point in time, keep going. I promise you the more that you put into your work and your craft, the more your art and your craft is going put into you, so just keep going.”
