Fashion model Giselle Lynette went from being an unknown to standout influencer in months. Catching the eye of the global fashion brand Fashion Nova, Lynette began creating videos that took off on YouTube. The goal is to help women find their personal inner beauty.
How did you arrive at this career choice?
My goal was never to have over three million followers on social media. Becoming a fashion influencer never crossed my mind. I just really enjoyed taking and sharing photos. Before I knew it, things snowballed into what they are now. So, I guess you could say it was a deliberate decision to be active on social media. Still, the growth and ability to make a living were unexpected [and a] natural evolution.
What skill sets do you recommend mastering for those considering entering this arena?
Success in anything is based on goals, hard work and luck. If your goal is to build a brand on social media, take the time to figure out what you want your posts to say about you, work hard to learn how the platform works, and be consistent. Be prepared for lots of little failures along the way. You need thick skin. Things can happen if you’re consistent and always working toward your goal. And be ready to take advantage of a lucky break or two if they happen to pop up.
Do you think there are any widely held misconceptions about what you do?
I’m not sure what misconceptions people might have, but maybe there’s a misunderstanding about how much time and effort goes into creating the content that gets posted. It can really be a full-time job.
