Former NFL player Sergio Brown remains missing after authorities discovered his mother’s body in Maywood, Illinois, on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2023.

The Cook County Examiner’s Office states that Myrtle Brown, 73, was found with multiple injuries near a creek behind her home in the suburb located about 10 miles from Chicago. The coroner ruled her death a homicide.


The family of Sergio and Myrtle Brown had contacted authorities after they were unable to get in touch with the two of them, CBS Chicago reports.

“My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home,” Sergio Brown’s brother Nick Brown wrote on Facebook and Instagram. 


Nick Brown also celebrated the life of his mother while thanking the public for their prayers and condolences.

The news outlet reported that police in Cook County are currently searching for Sergio Brown but do not have any solid leads or suspects as of Monday, Sept. 18, 2023.

Brown, 35, is a former safety for the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish who went on to play for the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills in the NFL. His father, Mario Brown, made history by becoming the first African American basketball player at Texas A&M University.
