HBCU graduate returns to alma mater with new business venture

Springer said it’s ‘kind of like giving back’

It’s all about progress for Mercendez Springer.

The Clark Atlanta University graduate returned to her alma mater as a business vendor during homecoming week. At her vending booth, Springer spoke to rolling out.

What is Black Flicks Trivia?

I’m the owner and founder of the game. It’s a Black film game dedicated to all the Black film classics we know and love. The Black TV shows with Will Smith, Denzel Washington, Angela Bassett, you’re going to get all of that and more in this game. You can find it at blackflickstrivia.com.

What brought you and the game to CAU this homecoming week?

I’m an alumna of Clark Atlanta University. I graduated in 2014. This is kind of like giving back.

I’ve had a couple of the film students come out here and answer the questions, and I think it’s educational with the game. So that’s pretty fun.

It’s an HBCU. We love Black culture, we love Black people, and that’s why we’re out here.

How did attending an HBCU shift your perspective on life and your career?

Coming into Clark Atlanta, I had a long weave down to my butt, and when I left Clark Atlanta, I was loc’d up. HBCUs give you a perspective of who you are as a Black person in America. During your first semester at an HBCU, you will walk out already knowing who you are, where you come from and where your people come from.

The HBCU experience is something I would tell everybody to get into.
