Actress Carrie Bernans, who has starred in such films as Black Panther and Avengers: End Games, suffered horrible injuries after being hit by a careening car on New Year’s Eve in New York.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe actress was walking around with a friend enjoying the multitudes and festivities in Midtown Manhattan when they both stopped at a food truck. At that moment, Bernans was struck by an out-of-control car and got pinned underneath and lost consciousness, TMZ reports.
In total, nine pedestrians suffered varying injuries in the accident that was so severe, that the New York Police Department declared it a “mass casualty incident.” Three NYPD officers were among the pedestrians who were struck.
Bernans’ mother posted photos of her daughter in the hospital with broken bones, facial cuts and lacerations on her Instagram page.
Bernans is lying in a bed with a neck brace and hooked up to multiple machines. Her mouth is bloodied and she suffered several broken or chipped teeth and several cuts on her face.
The actress’ mother, Patricia Lee, explained to Bernans’ fans that a driver, in his 40s, tried to evade the police when he crashed into multiple other cars before careening into her daughter, her daughter’s friend and several other people.
“She’s still in so much pain and can’t answer calls at this time, but appreciate the messages. This was a traumatic incident,” Lee penned on her daughter’s IG page.
“Please keep Carrie in your thoughts and prayers. She’s in so much pain but healing.”
Lee added that Bernans has already undergone surgery. She mentioned that Bernans’ son is safe because he was not with his mother at the time of the accident.
“This setback hasn’t deterred [Bernans’] belief that something remarkable is still being crafted by God,” Lee continued in the long soliloquy. “Despite the injuries sustained in the collision caused by a hit-and-run in NYC, she’s filled with hope and faith in the unfolding of a beautiful new chapter. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers as she navigate[s ]this path toward recovery and new beginnings.
