Many football fans are outraged that the NFL will include the Black national anthem in the performance lineup for the 2024 Super Bowl.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s office began including the Black anthem in the aftermath of the racial reckoning that transpired in America following the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis in 2020.

Far-right Black conservative Larry Elder, who recently ran to become the governor of California, barked at the idea of listening to “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during what is the single biggest television event of the year.

“Sigh … While they’re at it, how about the University of Michigan fight song?” Elders barked on his X account, according to the Hindustan Times. “Bro, we’re American. Why tf do we need Lift Every Voice and Sing?”

One social media user countered Elder on Whites’ outrage regarding the anthem, saying, “What if a white national anthem was played? It is. Francis Scott Key — the composer of the United States national anthem — was a slaveholding, violent white supremacist. Who fought to deport freed Black people to Africa. ‘O, say can you see.'”

Conservative Americans, however, are vehemently opposed to playing any anthem other than the “Star-Spangled Banner” to open Super Bowl LVIII — or any sporting event for that matter.
