While many NBA fans scratched their heads and criticized the Milwaukee Bucks‘ decision to fire first-year head coach Adrian Griffin with a 30-13 record, one woman is celebrating.
Jasmine Riggs took to social media following the news of Griffin’s firing on Jan. 24.
“God don’t play,” Riggs posted alongside a graphic of the news on her Instagram story. “Behind my son, it’s more to come fa sho. Karma and more to come #JusticeForJayce.”
Riggs had a son, Jayce, with Griffin’s son, Alan. In July 2023, Riggs sent Jayce to Alan to spend time with him, Adrian and Adrian’s wife. Jayce ended up dying at 2 years old of natural causes. There was no evidence of trauma or foul play. Riggs didn’t accuse the Griffins of doing something that led to Jayce’s death but rather neglecting the ailing child.
“The Griffin family will be held responsible for my baby’s death,” Riggs posted on Facebook last summer. “There is no way I let my baby be with his father, and I don’t get answers about how three adults let this happen.”
Riggs also claimed the Griffin family didn’t attend Jayce’s funeral.
When Riggs’ reaction to Griffin’s firing made headlines, one social media user commented Riggs was just upset “her meal ticket” died. Riggs also responded to that claim on Facebook.
“I’m far from bitter,” Riggs wrote. “I put my feelings aside and let my son’s father pick and choose when he wanted to be a dad … and that put my son in the ground. When my son died, they made it about the NBA. They didn’t even mention [Jayce] had a brother. That broke my heart all over again when I told him the news. F— clout. F— some money. I will never stop fighting for Jayce. I don’t care what you outsiders think.”
Alan hasn’t appeared to publicly address the situation. Adrian appeared to have acknowledged it once publicly, in July 2023 in a statement published by the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
“My grandson Jayce was very special to me and my family, and his passing is an agonizing tragedy that will be felt forever,” Adrian’s statement read. “I appreciate you respecting our family’s grief and privacy at this time.”
