Actress-singer Diamond White partnered with Disney to host a celebration for season two of her hit series, “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.” Disney took over Atlanta’s renowned Cascade Family Skating rink on Saturday, Jan. 27 to host a private party for a select group of children and influencers. “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast member Monyetta Shaw-Carter was a special featured guest along with her two children, Mason and Madi. The crowd enjoyed a special appearance by Heiress Harris, who just returned from performing with her father, rapper T.I., overseas.
“To be a part of a show that is so appreciative of all these diverse communities means a lot to me. We have representation of the Black community, the Latino community, the LGBTQ community [and] I think it’s important to have shows like this for young people to see themselves in the characters,” White shared.
White is the voice of 13-year-old super-genius Lunella Lafayette, who instinctively recites scientific formulas to solve mysteries along with her 10-ton T-Rex, Devil Dinosaur, as they protect her Lower East Side neighborhood from danger.
Little ones enjoyed grilled burgers and hotdogs, cosmic ice cream and had the opportunity to meet the Moon Girl character and get temporary tattoos and neon lit hair accessories, all courtesy of Disney and Moon Girl Devil Dinosaur.
The series has been praised for celebrating diversity in culture and offering representation of girls in STEM as the main character is a scientific genius who works alongside her imaginary pet dinosaur. With women of color being severely under-represented in STEM, “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” manages to celebrate diversity in both culture and education while entertaining young minds.
Eleven-year-old Gabriella Howard felt lucky to be invited to the event, because she is a big fan of the show.
“I love Lunella because she is smart and she can sing,” she explained after taking a picture with White. “And I love to skate. Luenella skates all the time in the show.”
White says she is looking forward to working on additional animated series along with a new movie and upcoming album.
The Emmy Award-winning animated series “Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur,” from Disney Branded Television, premiering Friday, Feb. 2 on Disney Channel and Disney XD with a batch dropping next day on Disney+.
