Dua Lipa and SZA are set to make history at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
The two pop stars have been announced as headliners for the festival, with Coldplay completing the lineup at the top of the bill. Lipa has described the gig as the “pinnacle of festival slots.”
It marks the first time in Glastonbury history that female acts have taken two of the three headline slots.
Lipa is “over the moon” to have been given the opportunity.
“The only advice everyone gives me is to bring my wellies,” she jokingly added in a BBC interview.
Her headline set on the Pyramid Stage is likely to center on Radical Optimism, her upcoming album, which she recently described as being a “confidently optimistic” record.
Lipa last played the festival in 2017, when she had a Friday afternoon slot on the John Peel stage. And Coldplay are no strangers to topping the bill.
The “Viva La Vida” hitmakers first headlined the Pyramid Stage back in 2002, and the chart-topping band — which is fronted by Chris Martin — are now poised to become the first act to headline Glastonbury five times.
Despite this, Coldplay haven’t actually performed at the festival since 2016.
Meanwhile, SZA will head to Glastonbury in June on the back of a successful arena tour and after winning three Grammy Awards in February.
The singer — whose real name is Solana Rowe — was also named the Best International Artist at the recent Brit Awards.
Elsewhere, it’s been announced that country music legend Shania Twain will play the coveted “Legend slot” on Sunday afternoon.
Twain revealed that she plans to make her performance an unforgettable one.
“I’m doing the hits — the songs that everybody knows and the versions that everybody knows. It’s just going to be a big sing-along party,” she told the BBC.
The festival’s lineup features a host of big-name female stars after organizers were criticized for having all-male headliners last year.
The likes of Avril Lavigne, Jessie Ware, Cyndi Lauper and Camila Cabello are all scheduled to perform at Worthy Farm in 2024, with Lavigne and Cabello making their debuts at the festival.
Meanwhile, Little Simz — the Brit Award-winning rapper — will play immediately before Coldplay takes to the stage.
