Robert J. Dale, esteemed CEO of R.J. Dale Advertising & Public Relations, passed away on March 31, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of innovation, leadership, and community service. Born on May 2, 1943, in Chicago, Illinois, Robert’s journey was marked by dedication, vision, and a deep commitment to uplifting others.

As a child, Robert attended Chicago’s St. Cyril Elementary School, where his early years laid the foundation for a lifetime of achievement. After graduating from Chicago Vocational High School in 1961, Robert embarked on a journey of service, joining the United States Air Force. Stationed in Amarillo, Texas, Robert not only served his country but also showcased his athletic prowess as a member of the U.S. Air Force basketball team.


In 1966, Robert married Ottie Andre’ Bryant of Nashville, Tennessee, beginning a partnership that would endure a lifetime. Together, they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where Robert pursued his Bachelor of Science degree in business at Arizona State University. A natural leader, Robert was elected president of the Black Student Union, where he advocated tirelessly for cultural educational assistance and housing for black students. His leadership extended to the realm of student governance, where he served as a student senator from the college of business.

Continuing his pursuit of excellence, Robert pursued his Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) at Stanford University, solidifying his expertise in the field of business and marketing. In 1973, Robert’s career took him back to his hometown of Chicago, where he was hired as a local account executive at Kaiser Broadcasting. His talent and dedication quickly propelled him to the position of national account executive at Kaiser Spot Television Sales, where he continued to excel.


In 1979, Robert co-founded R.J. Dale Advertising & Public Relations, driven by a vision to bring a unique business approach to African American advertising. Under his leadership, the agency flourished, earning recognition among the leading black-owned agencies by Black Enterprise Magazine. R.J. Dale Advertising & Public Relations became renowned for its focus on general market and segment-specific programs, reflecting Robert’s commitment to excellence and innovation.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Robert was deeply engaged in community service, serving on the boards of numerous organizations including the Chicago State University College of Business, the Black Public Relations Society, the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, the Black Ensemble Theatre, the Association of Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs, and the Institute of Positive Education, where he was elected board president.

Robert J. Dale’s impact extended far beyond the realms of business and community service; his legacy of integrity, leadership, and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come. He is survived by his his cherished family, and a community profoundly touched by his presence.
