INROADS scholar Beau Everett is a forever student-athlete who is always active and learning. Soon to graduate cum laude from Ursinus College with a bachelor’s in finance, Everett is looking to make a mark in the commercial banking and financial field and impact the lives of future student-athletes.

INROADS will be hosting its INROADS Benefit Gala, which will take place on May 2 in Washington, D.C., and bring together corporate partners, supporters, and alumni, all of whom share the common goal of pursuing equity.

How were you introduced to INROADS?

I was introduced to INROADS by Mr. Forest, who happens to be my father’s mentor. I learned from my father about INROADS and have had the opportunity to hear firsthand from Mr. Forest about this organization. He spoke highly about INROADS and I was naturally curious about the wonderful opportunities that the organization can provide someone like myself.

What was your favorite internship? What made it your favorite?

I have had the fortune of achieving three internships throughout my participation in INROADS. As a freshman in college, I interned with Dollar General and worked in the HR area. This was my first real job and I became better acquainted with time management skills from working with the HR team with many functions.

My second internship with JLL (Jones Lang Lasalle) was in commercial real estate. This role really stretched me, as I was not familiar with commercial real estate, and expanded my knowledge of banking and investment. I was honored to work for a company that has African American men in leadership. Mr. Herman Bulls, JLL Vice Chairman, Americas, is someone that I look up to and aspire to be.

My last internship with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) was my favorite. It was my favorite internship because I was able to learn so much about international finance, credit lending, and EXIM products as a whole with the global business development team. This internship made such an impression on me that I sought an additional concentration at school to help prepare me for a career in finance. I had a great supervisor along with a great team who was very supportive and would help me with projects throughout my 10 weeks. I also enjoyed commuting into Washington, D.C., taking public transportation (Metro), and working three days a week in the headquarters. It gave me the experience of interacting with other people from all walks of life. I also enjoyed working right next to the White House, which gave me a tremendous source of pride.

What skillset have you been exposed to since your INROADS participation?

Networking is one of the skills that I have taken [to] since being in INROADS. Through the many training and programs, I have had the opportunity to meet other cohorts in the program. During my internships, I have been encouraged to interact with [people] in different departments. I have been able to network internally with INROADS throughout my time, meeting with different development coaches and interns. I also networked during my time with JLL and EXIM. Not just within the supply chain or global business development teams, but with other people in different departments.

What is next for you?

Securing a position in commercial banking, coaching AAU basketball teams, and being a mentor to other students.

The INROADS Benefit Gala, which will take place on May 2, is a black-tie affair that recognizes the visionaries and leaders who mirror the legacy of founder Frank C. Carr’s dream to achieve opportunity for all. To RSVP, click here.
