Will Smith is making waves in the entertainment industry once again. Following his electrifying performance of his latest song, “You Can Make It” at the BET Awards, the iconic actor and rapper has signed a new recording deal with SLANG, an independent record label founded by veteran music executive Rene McLean.
This exciting news marks Smith’s return to music after nearly two decades, with his last album, Lost and Found, released in 2005. Smith, who first rose to fame as a rapper in Philadelphia alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff, is ready to reclaim his spot in the music scene. His journey began in 1986 with the hit single “Girls Ain’t Nothing But Trouble,” which sampled the classic sitcom theme from “I Dream of Jeannie.”
In 1989, Smith made history as the first rapper to win a Grammy, solidifying his place in music history. Now, with SLANG, he aims to partner with quality artists and invest in their growth, regardless of their genre or career stage. McLean expressed his commitment to fostering a supportive environment for artists, emphasizing that culture comes first in their mission.
Smith’s recent success isn’t limited to music; he also starred in the latest installment of the Bad Boys franchise, titled Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which grossed an impressive $151 million at the domestic box office. He even recorded a song for the film’s soundtrack with Sean Paul, titled “Light Em Up.”
As Will Smith embarks on this new chapter in his music career, fans can look forward to fresh sounds and a return to the stage. Stay tuned for more updates on his upcoming projects!
