Jennifer Lopez is said to be “taking time for herself.”

The singer was left devastated after she filed for divorce from her ex-husband Ben Affleck on Aug. 20. She said she  is now working on finding inner peace and is apparently not bitter over the breakup.

A source told People that, even though Lopez has experienced one of the “hardest years” of her life, she is now prioritizing her well-being and career.

“She didn’t want to file for divorce,” the source said. “She just felt like she had no choice. Nothing was gonna change with Ben. She was very upset about [the split]. But true to her positive outlook on life, she’s moving forward with optimism. Instead of feeling like she’s fallen flat on her face, she sees it was meant to be. She’s taking time for herself right now.”

Court documents revealed Lopez and Affleck listed their date of separation as April 26 after the pair spent this summer living separate lives.

The source also said Lopez cherishes her good times with the Air star and director.

“She knows she lives a privileged life in so many ways. She’s very grateful for all the beautiful memories with Ben, but she’s now focused on creating the best future for herself and her kids,” they added.

Mother-of-two Lopez and dad-of-three Affleck first started dating in 2002 after they met while playing lovers in the Gigli, but after getting engaged they called off their marriage two years later.

Lopez went on to marry Marc Anthony, while Affleck got hitched to actress Jennifer Garner. After Lopez and Affleck broke up with their partners, they got back together in 2021 and married a year later.

The singer said in a chat with Interview that was published last week her split from Affleck felt “lonely,” “unfamiliar,” “scary,” “sad” and “desperate.”
