Rising rapper Polo G faces a felony weapons charge after a weekend traffic stop in Los Angeles, potentially disrupting his upcoming tour scheduled to begin this week.

The LAPD arrested the “Finer Things” artist Saturday after discovering a loaded firearm during a traffic stop for speeding in San Fernando Valley. He remained in custody as of 4:55 p.m. CT Monday, according to police records.

The arrest comes at a critical moment for the performer. His “HOOD POET TOUR 2024” is set to launch Thursday in Denver with special guests Skilla Baby and VONOFF1700. The tour follows the August release of his fourth studio album.

Industry pattern of weapons charges

Similar incidents have affected several prominent artists in recent years. Young Thug faces multiple weapons charges as part of a broader RICO case in Atlanta. Authorities arrested NBA YoungBoy in 2020 during a music video shoot in Baton Rouge after finding multiple firearms on set.

Lil Wayne received a federal weapons charge in 2020 related to a December 2019 incident in Miami, eventually receiving a pardon. Kodak Black served time for falsifying documents to obtain firearms in 2019. Police arrested Offset on weapons charges in 2018 during a traffic stop in Georgia. GloRilla faced weapons charges in 2023 after Memphis police found firearms during a routine traffic stop.

This marks another legal challenge for Polo G. Earlier this year, he faced weapon charges in New York City after leaving a firearm in a hotel room. Last year, authorities raided his Burbank home in a separate incident.

Legal issues and career impact

The recurring legal troubles create uncertainty for the artist’s career trajectory. Known for addressing social justice and personal challenges in his music, Polo G has built a significant following through his authentic storytelling and raw portrayal of urban life.

His current situation highlights broader discussions about systemic pressures facing young men in the spotlight. As his case moves through the legal system, questions remain about potential tour disruptions and long-term career implications.

The incident adds to ongoing conversations about policing practices, gun laws and their impact on communities. It also raises questions about the balance between personal safety concerns and legal compliance for public figures.

Tour status uncertain

Representatives have not announced changes to the tour schedule. Ticket holders await updates as the legal situation develops.
