Cleveland Browns cornerback Denzel Ward received his second Walter Payton Man of the Year Award nomination, recognizing his heart health advocacy through the Make Them Know Your Name foundation. Ward established MTKYN in 2019 following his father Paul G. Ward Jr.’s death from cardiac arrest. “It means a lot,” Ward said of the nomination. “For me to have the opportunity for that to happen twice, it just means a lot.”

The foundation focuses on preventing heart-related fatalities through education and resource provision. “If we could save one life, that’s going to mean the world to us,” Ward said. His advocacy helped pass House Bill 47 in Ohio, requiring automatic external defibrillators in public schools and recreational centers.

MTKYN committed $150,000 for over 100 Avive Connect AEDs in Cleveland area organizations. Ward credits his mother’s role in the foundation’s success. “She’s a backbone of the foundation,” he said. “I literally tell her, this is your award, you deserve this.”

The NFL will present the Walter Payton award at the upcoming NFL Honors show. The recognition celebrates players demonstrating excellence in community service and on-field performance. Industry observers note Ward’s impact extends beyond traditional athlete philanthropy.

Healthcare professionals praise his focus on preventative heart care education. Community leaders highlight the foundation’s practical approach to saving lives through AED placement. Local organizations report increased awareness of heart health issues following Ward’s initiatives.

Medical experts emphasize the importance of accessible defibrillators in public spaces. Ward’s foundation tracks AED installations and usage across Cleveland communities. Emergency response professionals note improved cardiac emergency preparedness in areas with foundation-provided equipment.

Cleveland civic leaders praise Ward’s commitment to local health initiatives. The cornerback maintains regular involvement in foundation activities despite his NFL schedule. Education officials report increased student awareness of heart health following school programs.

Sports industry analysts suggest Ward’s community work enhances his team leadership role. The Browns organization supports his foundation through various partnerships and events. Local health organizations coordinate with MTKYN to maximize resource distribution and education efforts.
