Drake became the object of scorn and ridicule when he filed legal petitions against Universal Music Group and Spotify after getting splattered by Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”
Instead of using wax to spit out a response to K. Dot’s monumental blockbuster track, Drizzy turned to the courts to seek redress, which subjected him to endless mockery by the hip-hop nation. He claimed in the court documents, which were only legal petitions, that the music corporations conspired to greatly inflate Lamar’s club anthem numbers, which has been played ad nauseam since last summer.
Some think Drake tried to stop Kendrick Lamar from performing ‘Not Like Us’ at the Super Bowl
Some hip-hop heads speculated that Drake was trying to avoid the abject humiliation of having Lamar perform the song on the single greatest platform on television, the Super Bowl halftime show. Entertainment acts during intermission have routinely been seen by more than 110 million people over the past several years.
Drake pulls the petition in New York
After months of legal maneuvering, Aubry Drake Graham has decided to pull his petition in New York against the music behemoths.
According to Suonosphere, Drake’s legal team negotiated a truce on the petition in New York, though the same filing still exists in Texas where Drake also presented accusatory documents. No word yet if the Texas case will also be dropped or when.
Fans respond to Drake’s withdrawal
Fans speculate that Drizzy has no corroborative evidence to support his claims, which is probably why he didn’t file an actual lawsuit and has quickly withdrawn the petition.
“Ugh, the legal documents says the Petitioner, so Drake, voluntarily withdrew, and there is NO COSTS to Respondents, so Spotify and UMG. Drake got nothing because he never had a case!” wrote one X user.
