It’s official — Nia Long and Larenz Tate are bringing their iconic chemistry back as ambassadors for the 2025 American Black Film Festival (ABFF)! This year’s festival, presented by Nice Crowd, runs June 11-15 in Miami, followed by an online edition from June 16-23 on ABFF PLAY.

As ambassadors, the Love Jones duo will shine a spotlight on Black storytelling and opportunities for creators of color in film and television. But that’s not all—ABFF is rolling out a special event, “ABFF Remembers: Love Jones,” featuring an intimate conversation and musical tribute to celebrate the movie’s lasting impact. Fans can expect behind-the-scenes stories, heartfelt reflections, and a dose of that classic on-screen magic from Long and Tate.

Tate, who played the smooth and poetic Darius Lovehall, has long acknowledged Love Jones as a defining moment for Black love in cinema. At a 2023 empowerment event at the historic 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., he was asked about a Love Jones reboot. His response? “It would be hard for us to catch lightning in a bottle twice.”

Well, Gen X fans seem to disagree—they’re already swooning over this reunion!

Tate went on to tease a possible new project with Long, saying: “Nia and I have been trying to figure out what that would look like. Maybe a TV show? A movie franchise? We’ve discussed everything because we know what Love Jones meant to people. We don’t want to disrupt that—we want to create something just as special.”

Whatever they’re cooking up, one thing’s for sure — ABFF 2025 is about to be legendary!
