In acclaimed director Ryan Coogler’s latest film, Sinners, Michael B. Jordan plays the challenging dual role of twin brothers seeking redemption in their hometown, only to encounter a malevolent force that threatens to destroy them.
The psychological horror film, slated for release next month, marks a departure from Coogler’s previous works, such as Black Panther and Creed, though it reunites him with frequent collaborator Jordan.
“You keep dancing with the devil; one day he’s gonna follow you home,” warns the film’s ominous tagline. The film explores themes of guilt, redemption, and the inescapable nature of one’s past.
The project has garnered significant praise from industry titans, including Spike Lee, who took to Instagram to share his enthusiasm after an early screening.
“I just had the greatest experience watching a film in years,” Lee wrote. “Word Iz Bond, I haven’t felt this way in a movie theatre in a minute. Last Thing I told my brother, Ryan, he really, 100, tapped into our ancestors on this joint.”
Sinners is a blend of psychological thriller and supernatural horror. Jordan’s dual performance anchors the narrative as the brothers confront both external threats and their own troubled histories.
The film will premiere internationally on April 16 and nationwide on April 18.
