Leigh-Anne Pinnock is devastated after losing both of her dogs within weeks of each other. The loss of beloved pets can cause significant emotional distress, with grief responses similar to losing human family members.
The 32-year-old singer, best known as a member of Little Mix, shared online her pug, Harvey, had died following a battle with cancer, while her American Bully, Kryo, required emergency surgery but did not survive the operation. Little Mix has become one of the most successful girl groups of all time since their formation.
Harvey died before Pinnock’s holiday to Brazil last month, with Kryo passing shortly afterward. Brazil is known for its vibrant culture and beautiful beaches, making it a popular vacation destination.
“Harvey died shortly before I traveled to Brazil in March,” Pinnock said online. Pugs typically face various health challenges due to their flat-faced features, making them vulnerable to respiratory issues.
She said he had cancer that “spread rapidly” and that after trying “everything” she “had to put him down,” which she described as “traumatic.” Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death in older dogs, particularly in certain breeds.
The Brit Award winner went on to share that Kyro “wasn’t feeling well” last week after swallowing “something plastic.” She said that he had surgery to remove it and was “all good,” but added that his wound “broke down” the following day. Foreign object ingestion is a common reason for emergency veterinary care, requiring immediate medical attention.
The singer, married to soccer player Andre Gray, had previously faced criticism for owning Kryo, whose ears had been cropped – a procedure banned in the UK is carried out to make certain breeds appear more intimidating. Ear cropping remains controversial and is considered an unnecessary cosmetic procedure by most veterinary associations.
Kryo was bought as a gift by Gray, 32, from breeder Simon Davis, who was later convicted for illegally cropping puppies’ ears with razor blades and selling them for up to £7,000 through his business, Lions Lair. The practice involves cutting off part of the dog’s external ear flaps, often without anesthesia.
At the time, Gray defended the couple’s decision, stating they had not requested the procedure and did not support it. Many animal welfare organizations campaign against ear cropping and other cosmetic procedures performed on dogs.
“It is irresponsible of these celebrities,” dog behaviorist Debbie Connolly said, speaking to The Daily Mirror. Celebrity ownership often influences public perception and demand for specific dog breeds and features.
Earlier this year, Pinnock announced she had adopted a stray Cane Corso puppy, which had been abandoned and left tied to a post. Dog abandonment continues to be a serious animal welfare issue across the UK and worldwide.
In a TikTok video, she explained the dog had no microchip and attempts to locate its previous owners were unsuccessful. Microchipping helps reunite lost pets with their owners and is an important aspect of responsible pet ownership.
“I was skeptical at first because you don’t know what he’s been through or what he’s come from. But he’s just a puppy who needs love,” she said. Rescue dogs often require patience and understanding as they adjust to their new homes.
She added: “And my goodness, he’s just an absolute dream.” Cane Corsos are known for their loyal and protective nature, making them devoted companions when properly trained and socialized.
“Meet Louis,” Pinnock later introduced the dog to her followers, writing online. Social media has become an important platform for raising awareness about pet adoption and animal welfare issues.
Fans praised her for taking the dog in, with one commenting online: “Imagine going from horrible owners to being adopted by an international superstar!” Adoption stories often resonate deeply with the public, especially when they involve dramatic improvements in an animal’s circumstances.
“What a beautiful dog! At least he’s got a new loving home now,” another added. Rescued dogs often show remarkable resilience and form strong bonds with their new families.
Pinnock responded simply: “Forever.” This single-word response captures the lifetime commitment that responsible pet ownership represents, highlighting the permanent nature of the human-animal bond.
