T.D Jakes and Peter Bishai’s independent chronicle A Million Colours was screened at the Chicago Ice Theater on 87th street during the Englewood Film Festival.
A Million Colours is a romantic war story based in Soweto, South Africa post-apartheid and pre-Mandela.
This independent film had a $6.5 million budget, yet showcased cinematography that rivals that of a major blockbuster. The South African cast added the crowning jewel to the film’s authenticity.
Colours is the story of two lovers, Sabela and Muntu as they are challenged by racism and political warfare. The demons of despair, inequality and freedom shrouded each character, even as they were stripped of life itself.
Another independent film screening Ousted, short film shown was written and produced by Chicago filmmaker, Maurice D Walls and directed by Chicago’s own Emmanuel Stewart under Stewart’s production company ETS Productions. The story follows a young black family torn apart by lust, betrayal and deception.
Both films closed out the Englewood Film Festival Sunday, Oct. 29.
