Rachel Jeantel’s letter to Sybrina Fulton
During Rachel Jeantel’s testimony in the George Zimmerman trial the 19-year-old friend of Trayvon Martin admitted to penning a letter to the fallen teen’s mom.
According to Rachel whose been the subject of widespread criticism for her demeanor while on the witness stand, she had a friend write a letter for her describing her phone call with Martin just before his death. She later gave that letter to Martin’s mother, Sybrina Fulton to describe Martin’s final moments.
In it Rachel described the phone conversation she had with her friend as he walked from a convenience store back to his father’s fiancee’s home.
“I was on the phone when Trevon [sic] decided to go to the corner store. It started to rain so he decided to walk through another complex because it was raining so [sic] hard,” stated the letter.
She later described the teen saying he was being followed and decided to find a shortcut in an attempt to lose the man. After doing so, Rachel says the teen was shocked to see the man following him again.
Then Trevon [sic] turned around and said, “Why are you following me?” Then I heard him fall, wrote Rachel via a friend. “Then the phone hung up. I called back and got no response. In my mind I thought it was just a fight. Then I found out this tragic story.”
Zimmerman’s defense team has since been blasted on Twitter not for bringing up the letter, but for asking Rachel Jeantel to read it. Jeantel was forced to admit that she can not read cursive.
Zimmerman’s defense just asked Rachel Jeantel to read a letter on stand, knowing very well she is illiterate. An attempt to discredit her.
