Celebrities debate gun control on Twitter

President Obama’s gun control campaign has ignited one of the fiercest and most bitter political debates of the modern era. Gun control advocates, which includes many celebrities, say that new gun laws are needed to curb the kind of senseless massacres that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Conn. Gun rights groups, which also include many celebrities, argue vociferously that any gun control bill equates to an automatic and illegal infringement on the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

As Forbes magazine writes, while the new laws would certainly dent the nation’s $32 billion gun industry, it would not cripple it. The weapons ban would restrict what gun manufacturers call modern sporting rifles. The man who wreaked havoc at Sandy Hook used such a weapon—a Bushmaster AR-15 manufactured by the Freedom Group, the largest long-gun manufacturer in America. The ban would likely parallel the one signed into law in New York yesterday: there, any rifle with even one militarized feature, like a pistol grip or a flash suppressor, is now now illegal.

Take a look at what many celebrities have to say about the national debate on gun control, which mirrors the debate raging nationwide.
