Award-winning journalist Gwen Ifill led a discussion with the founder of Motown records in An Evening with Berry Gordy, an event taped live for broadcast on PBS-TV. Kem, Valerie Simpson, Janelle Monae and the cast of Motown the Musical performed, and Stefan Gordy — known to the music world as Redfoo — one-half of the hip-hop musical group, LMFAO, was on the scene. Julieanna Richardson, founder and executive director of The HistoryMakers, served as executive producer. Ray Chew, music director for American Idol, served as the show’s music producer.
The posh $1,000 per ticket event was heralded as one of the finest celebrity tributes in recent memory. The event was held at the Art Institute of Chicago.
