Chris Brown is under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department that could trigger a probation violation and send him to prison, the media has learned.

The LAPD wants to speak with the R&B singer as soon as possible about the car accident last week in which his luxury whip lightly rear ended a Mercedes Benz. Looks like Brown left the scene without giving the driver of the other vehicle any personal information and supplied inaccurate insurance information, to boot.

Brown, who was driving with back-on girlfriend Karrueche Tran, refused to give his driver’s license to the victim of the simple car crash and even had an attitude when she insisted that Rihanna’s ex-boyfriend give her his information, tmz.com reports.

As pop culture watchers are very much aware, Brown is still on probation for beating up Rihanna on the eve of the 2009 Grammy Awards. One of the conditions of his affiliation with the penal system is that he remains crime free. If this investigation leads to a charge of hit-and-run, Brown could be found in violation of his probation could be violated and Chris could go to prison for up to four years.
