Gonorrhea Super Bug Discovered; Ways to Protect Yourself and Your Sexual Partner

The risk of having unsafe sex has just increased. According to a report by Reuters, scientists have discovered a new form of gonorrhea in Japan that is resistant to all antibiotics that are used to treat the disease.

Known as H041, the disease could become a worldwide epidemic if scientists are unable to find a way to eliminate its resistance to drugs. Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection that can cause inflammatory disease, ectopic pregnancy and infertility in women.

Symptoms in men include a burning sensation when urinating or a white, yellow or green discharge from the penis. Sometimes, men with gonorrhea get painful or swollen testicles.

Symptoms in women are painful or burning sensation when urinating, increased vaginal discharge or vaginal bleeding between periods.

The best way to protect yourself is to use a latex condom each time you participate in sexual intercourse. Women should avoid excessive douching because it takes away some of the natural bacteria that protects against sexual transmitted diseases. It’s also important for
infected individuals to notify their partners and refrain from sex until they complete treatment and no longer have symptoms. –a.r.
