Kristinia DeBarge On Family Ties, Chris Brown and Rihanna

altKristinia DeBarge understands that her greatest advantage could be
her biggest challenge. The daughter of James DeBarge, Kristinia was
reared by a musically gifted family that gave her firsthand insight
on the music industry. However, some will expect her to carry the
mantle and continue the success that her family established during
the early `80s. More than prepared for the challenge, Kristina
recently sat down with rolling out to discuss how she plans to
continue her family’s legacy, her thoughts on Chris Brown and
Rihanna and what she prefers on a first date. –a.r.

What was it like growing up in the DeBarge family?

My family has inspired me a lot. Being a part of this family is a
blessing. A lot of people have respect for my family because of their
talents, but I never felt any pressure to live up to their legacy
because they never put that pressure on me. But it was a lot
different than any other family. There was a lot of singing in the
house and someone was always playing an instrument. There was never a
dull moment. We were all really close and we couldn’t help but to
fall in love with music.

Why is it important for you to have a positive image and how do
you deal with blogs and gossip?

It’s important for me to have a positive image because I’m a
positive person. I’m 19 and I have made mistakes in the past, but I
would like to be a role model for girls my age. I think we need more
role models. When it comes to rumors and blogs, I deal with that by
concentrating on my fans and the people who love me.

What are your thoughts on Chris Brown and Rihanna?

I feel like that happens a lot. But because it happened to two
people who are in the spotlight, it must be hard for both of them. My
heart goes out to them. Sometimes people forget that we’re human
and that we all make mistakes.

What do you look for in a man and what is the perfect first
date?

I look for a guy who can make me laugh and who has great
personality. He also has to be a gentlemen and he must dress well.
The perfect first date would be an afternoon at the park with us
laying down on a blanket and having lunch.
