Celebs attend Essence’s Black Women in Hollywood luncheon

As Oscar weekend whirls on, a famed African-American publication paid tribute to women on color in Hollywood with an annual star studded high tea. Essence held the sixth annual “Black Women In Hollywood” luncheon Thursday at the Beverly Hills Hotel to honor Oprah Winfrey and 9-year-old Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis who will compete for Best Actress at Sunday’s Academy Awards. Also on hand was Gabrielle Union who accepted the Fierce & Fearless award.

Speaking to a packed crowd that included Common, Kelly Rowland, Lauren London and a bundle of other celebs, Union said she had long “pretended” to be fierce and fearless but actually reveled in gossip and “took joy in people’s pain and tap-danced on their misery.” Now obviously a changed woman, Union added remark on Twitter; “One thing I took away from today, tell the truth and shame the devil…#TruthMatters #TruthSeekers.”
