‘The Best Man 2’ In The Works
After years of rumors about its reprisal, a sequel to a popular black film is in the works. IndieWire reports that Universal Pictures gave the green light to The Best Man 2, the follow-up to the 1999 Malcolm D. Lee film. It is currently scheduled for a Nov. 15, 2013 release. Returning to the film will be of course Lee and his so-called ‘Black Pack’ consisting of Sanaa Lathan, Nia Long, Regina Hall, Monica Calhoun, Taye Diggs, Terrance Howard, and Morris Chestnut. And while details are skimpy, Sanaa Lathan spoke earlier this year about a possible sequel to the film. “It’s all on the studio and them deciding to do it,” said Lathan. “I know a lot of people are excited and anticipating the movie, but we all just have to cross our fingers and hopefully it will all come together. Everyone in the cast is excited and on board, and I think people will be really pleasantly entertained to see where these characters have evolved over the twelve years.”
No further information on ‘The Best Man 2’ has been released.
Before today’s announcement however, Malcolm D. Lee and his cast were spotted having a reunion dinner in West Hollywood. Obviously excited about having his ‘Best Man’ buddies together for the occasion, the director told members of the press; “It was a joy to reunite with the “Black Pack”, one of the best casts ever assembled in my view. Judging from the laughs, conversation and smiles we’d all love to find a way to collaborate again. God willing it’ll happen.”
