Celebrities congratulate Lupita Nyong’o
After Lupita Nyong’o was announced as the winner for Best Supporting Actress at the 2014 Oscars, Twitter exploded with celebrity reactions. Nyongo’s peers could not have been more elated for the class act as she held back tears during her acceptance speech. The beauty thanked the spirit of Patsy, the woman she portrayed in “12 Years A Slave” and mentioned Solomon Northup whose narrative was used to create the film.
“Thank you to the academy for this incredible recognition. It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s. And so I want to salute the spirit of Patsy for her guidance, to Solomon [Northup], thank you for telling her story and your own,” said Nyong’o.
After thanking director Steve McQueen, her costar Chiwetel Ejiofor and her brother Junior, whom she dubbed her best friend, Nyong’o ended her speech with a memorable message.
“When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid,” said the actor.
Celebrities including Oprah and Queen Latifah promptly congratulated the star in 140 characters or less via Twitter.
