Black artists have had an interesting history with the Grammy Awards.
There have been undeniable highs such as Stevie Wonder’s domination of the Best Album Category in the mid-1970s and OutKast’s Album of the Year award in 2004, and questionable lows such as the Supremes never garnering an award and Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy being completely overlooked for an Album of the Year nomination.
But, since the beginning of the rock-R&B era, there have been black artists that have really put their stamp on the awards ceremony and landmark albums and era that were acknowledged for their brilliance and popularity.
