Andre 3000 and Big Boi may not be immediately working on new material as OutKast, but the famed emcees are apparently prepping new music for new individual projects. According to Mr. DJ, OutKast’s longtime DJ and co-producer, 3000 and Big Boi are hard at work on new solo material. Big Boi has already released two solo albums, and Mr. DJ says he believes 3000 will release his solo debut sometime this year.
With the pair reuniting this year for numerous tour dates across the country, Mr. DJ said that he believes that it’s only a matter of time before an official OutKast album happens.
“I get the feeling that the energy and camaraderie from the tour will bring everything full circle,” Mr. DJ told REVOLT. “We may make it back in for an album following that.”
Touring for the first time in more than a decade, OutKast announced that they are slated to co-headline Coachella, the Governor’s Ball the Firefly Music Festival and several other dates. The unexpected onstage reunion was sparked by the anniversary of the group’s debut album, 1994s southernplayalisticadillacmuzik.
“Returning to the stage together is the most exciting way for us to thank everyone for their 20 years of supporting OutKast,” Andre said in a statement regarding the performances.
