Elle Varner blasted for interracial dating
A Grammy nominated songstress came under fire Tuesday, Dec. 25 after a number of fans believed she was not only engaged, but set to marry a white man. Elle Varner, 23, has made waves in 2012 with her catchy hits and Perfectly Imperfect debut album. Most recently however the singer’s Christmas holiday prank garnered her some harsh criticism.
Early Tuesday Twitter.com was abuzz with news that Elle was one of several women gifted with an engagement ring. “Well this is unexpected!,” she captioned the below photo.
Following that however several fans were in an uproar, mainly because they’d heard rumors that the singer was in an interracial relationship. Elle who recently told VIBE VIXEN that she “doesn’t have a color preference” when it comes to dating, was blasted in several tweets.
After hearing news of the controversy, the songstress quickly reacted and explained that the photo was indeed a joke. Not a joke however, were her feelings on dating outside of her race. “No two human beings are the same,” said Elle.” If you want to put people in boxes and categories like crayons that’s your prerogative.” She also posted her recent music video that features a white man as her love interest.
