Ciara and her former fiancé, Future, had one of the most high-profile breakups last year when they ended their engagement amid rumors that Future had cheated on her. And while Ciara vented about the split on her hit song “I Bet,” Future remained relatively silent. Now, Future has finally opened up and shared his side of the story of what went wrong in their relationship.
In a new Vevo video diary titled “Like I Never Left Part 1,” Future explains that part of the friction in his relationship with Ciara was over their disagreement on how to handle the follow-up to her self-titled album Ciara, for which he co-wrote on the hit single “Body Party”:
“She was pregnant and she started working on her next album. Me and Mike Will finished the album before the album she just dropped [referring to ‘Ciara].
She didn’t want us to be a part of it at first. Like d—, we just came off a No. 1, and you go straight to Dr. Luke and start working with him? You go right back to the pop lane after we get a little steam?
We shouldn’t do that. We should’ve just finished what we started. You know what I’m sayin’? Go back into that ‘Body Party’ lane and give the fans what they want. That’s what they want from you. Like, let’s give them that and let it cross over to pop — instead of trying to chase that crowd.
But she was like, ‘Nah, I wanna record it this way.’ So me and Mike Will didn’t even get a chance to work on that album even though we were coming off a number one.
I thought that was a little weird and we still in a relationship so s— kinda threw me off.”
Future then went onto explain that another fracture in their relationship was their disagreement over Ciara’s big wedding plans.
