Jay-Z appears to be at a stage in his career where dissing rappers is no longer fun. The Brooklyn rapper has now taken aim at Republicans who questioned how he and Beyonce were able to take a trip to Cuba.
In the new song “Open Letter,” Jay-Z addresses the controversy that surrounded the trip due to overzealous Republicans.

“Ballin til they ban us, you getting too much bread, they trying to jam you, Boy from the hood, but I got White House clearance, sorry y’all, I don’t agree with y’all appearance…Politicians never did s— for me, except lie to me, distort history.”

Jay-Z also says he’d rather commit a more vicious crime if it came down to him serving time for the Cuba visit. The U.S. government can give citizens a $250,000 fine and 10 year prison sentence for visiting Cuba without permission.

“Wanna give me jail time and a fine, Fine let me commit a real crime, I might buy a kilo for Chief Keef.”
Jay-Z discuses how President Obama reacted to facing heat for the trip.
“Obama said chill, you gonna get me impeached.”

The silliness of the embargo is also explored in the song. “This communist talk is so confusing, when it’s from China, the very mic that I’m using.”

Jay-Z ends the song by referring to himself as the Bob Dylan of rap.
