Lil Kim Claims New Mixtape Sold 113,000 Copies, But Her Beef With Nicki Minaj Could Fuel Her Downfall

Nicki Minaj viewed Lil Kim as a source of inspiration before signing with Cash Money/Young Money Records. Like her role model, Nicki Minaj wears colorful wigs, seductive outfits and is frank when it comes to rapping about sexuality.

However, Lil Kim is disturbed by Nicki Minaj’s success and seems to be hell-bent on destroying her career. On Feb. 14, Lil Kim released the mixtape Black Friday. An answer to Nicki Minaj’s hit album Pink Friday, Black Friday features several scathing diss records.

On the mixtape’s cover, Lil Kim is shown lying next to a headless body that appears to be a replica of Nicki Minaj. Lil Kim is holding a blood-drenched sword and a pink-haired head is lying face down in a pool of blood.

But while the cover is a bit brash, some hip-hop enthusiasts were put off by Lil Kim’s decision to charge $9.99 for Black Friday in an era where most artists give mixtapes away.

One day after Lil Kim released Black Friday, she claimed that the album sold 113,000 copies in 28 hours. A few Twitter users questioned the accuracy of that number.

Lil Kim has made her point and it’s time for her to move beyond her beef with Nicki Minaj. For years, she did an admirable job as one of the greatest emcees of all time. But she’s now dedicated her career to making Nicki Minaj irrelevant. Her Ahabian quest has caused her to abandon the idea of creating the type of music that helped her sell millions of records in the past. –amir shaw
