Madonna attempted to draw attention to her new album by using images that featured Black icons Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela.
To promote her new album, Rebel Heart, Madonna posted several images on her Twitter that featured individuals whose faces had been wrapped by what appears to be a cord. The images reflected Madonna’s album cover for Rebel Heart.
However, Madonna faced severe criticism on Twitter after she posted images of King, Mandela, and Bob Marley with their faces wrapped in a cord. She responded by saying the images were not done with racist intent, but the damage was already done.
Here is how upset Twitter users responded to the show of disrespect.
95% sure Martin Luther King Jr did not die to have his face roped up but [sic] Madonna’s folks.

Wow, @madonna quite literally brands Martin Luther King, Jr. & Nelson Mandela to promote her new album. New low; epitome of white privilege.

There is nothing pro-black about Madonna. She uses black people as props for her own gain or to cause controversy.

Madonna shared images of Bob Marley and Martin Luther King tied up in that black cable so she could promote her album…Really, girl?

Madonna just needs that Black (American) friend in her life to act as a buffer between her and Instagram.

For someone who’s been around since reconstruction Madonna still doesn’t get social media.
