Ray Charles honored with a Forever postage stamp and new CD on his birthday

On Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, the USPS will honor the late Ray Charles with a Forever postage stamp, which is also his 83rd birthday. In conjunction with the Postal Service’s Music Icons Forever stamp series, this unveiling will be held at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles.

Customers may purchase the Ray Charles Forever stamp at usps.com/stamps, at 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724) and at post offices nationwide. The Music Icons series, launched May 15, 2013, with the Lydia Mendoza Forever stamp. The series will continue for the next several years with inductees being announced at a later date.


Subsequently, on Tues., Sept. 24, 2013,  a retrospective CD/DVD set titled Ray Charles Forever will be released featuring 12 tracks, including covers and memorable tunes.  The DVD will offer 20 minutes’ worth of footage, including rare concert performances of “Imagine,” “They Can’t Take That Away From Me” and “A Song for You,” as well as vintage interviews with Charles.
