Tyga has built a respectable career as a member of YMCMB. But although he has sold over 350,000 albums since releasing Careless World: Rise of the Last King and Hotel California, Tyga claims that he has yet to receive a royalty check from Birdman and Cash Money Records.
While speaking with Power 105’s The Breakfast Club, Tyga revealed that he received a bonus check for signing, but never got any money from the label afterwards.
He says he earns most of his money through tours and endorsement deals. “I never got a check from Young Money/Cash Money. But by me saying that, I’ve always treated my career like independent and everything that I got is because of myself, my own endorsements, me touring, myself. I think I got a signing bonus when I first signed but that was it.”
Cash Money has a history of dealing with disputes by artists who were unhappy with a lack of payments from the label. Juvenile, B.G. and Mannie Fresh all left the label after claiming Birdman withheld their royalty checks.
