On Feb. 1, six relationship authors, the Six Brown Chicks, joined forces to address intimate issues affecting women of color. Six days a week, the bloggers write about love, sex, battery-operated boyfriends, domestic abuse, momma’s boys, baby-momma drama — you name it, the women blog about it.
Also, the chicks invite the public to salute a Brown Chick of the Day; that is, a woman who is making waves in her community.
The spicy ChicagoNow blog has now become a weekly talk series on WCIU.com.
Realizing that women cannot hold all the knowledge about relationships, the chicks recently invited men of distinction to share their thoughts on love, and several men participated, including rolling out publisher Munson Steed. Steed’s blog, Anatomy of Online Infidelity: Chasing the Old Flame, remains one of the most popular blogs on the site.
The Six Brown Chicks consist of A Comeaux, a spoken word artist and owner of Write One Publishing, LLC; Dawgelene “Dr. Dawj” Sangster, author, founder of the women’s support group Think Royally, and a survivor of domestic violence and rape; author and relationship columnist Gina B.; playwright and author Shoya Bowman; author and CEO and founder of Making Love Better TwoGether Yanni Brown, a certified relationship educator; and rolling out deputy editor and author Zondra Hughes.
The chicks upload their blogs on Sundays to the ChicagoNow site, and they tape the WCIU.com show — unedited, no second or third takes — during their half-hour lunch break once a week.
