Jada Pinkett Smith Talks Will Smith, Discusses Raising Willow, Trey and Jaden

Jada Pinkett Smith has juggled many titles in her day; that of a wife, mother, actress, rocker and producer. And in the summer issue of Uptown magazine, the “HawthoRNe” actress talks about her love for husband Will Smith, ending her rocker career and being a Hollywood mother to Trey, Willow and Jaden Smith.

In the issue, Pinkett Smith explains that in Will, she’s found not only a soul mate, but a creative and inspiring partner in her life.

“We create together; we love on each other,” Pinkett Smith says of the man she still rocks out with to old-school hip-hop on satellite radio. “We raise our kids together. We are building something together. People think that Will and I don’t spend a lot of time together. [We spend] too much time [together], actually, if you ask me. It’s always nice to have a little time apart. Sometimes you need that.”

Pinkett Smith also reveals that she quit her singing career as the lead singer of the rock band, Wicked Wisdom, to spend time with her son, Jaden.Jada Pinkett Smith Talks Will Smith, Discusses Raising Willow, Trey and Jaden

“When Jaden did The Pursuit of Happyness, I was supposed to go on tour with Guns N’ Roses in Europe,” says Pinkett Smith, explaining that she instead turned down the offer and eventually disbanded Wicked Wsidom. “It was probably the most heartbreaking experience. But what I realized is that sometimes God will place things in your life that will make you recognize what your priorities are. I adore my son; he’s my soul seed. There was no way that I was going to allow him to do [a movie] and not have his mother.”

Although Pinkett Smith has sacrificed a lot to be good mother to her children, onlookers and critics have long held that she and Will are doing her now famous kids a disservice by letting them grow up in the limelight. But Pinkett Smith assures that her kids and her detractors have nothing to worry about.

There are so many other kids you can worry about. My kids? They’re going to be all right,” she says. “I get why people would criticize. But people need to know that Will and I would never put our children in a situation that would bring them detriment. If I survived everything that I survived in Baltimore and Will survived everything he survived in Philly, these kids surely can survive the Hollywood game.”
