As reported by the AJC, Vick released a statement, revealing that while he won’t be sharing a couch with the talk-show queen next week, he hopes to do so in the future.
“After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview,” Vick said in a statement. “I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.”
However, the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback had better reschedule quickly if he wants to make it on before Winfrey ends her 25-year run on daytime TV this May.
Although Vick has yet to provide a solid reason why he cancelled at the last minute, it’s easy to assume that one reason may be that he was trying to avoid traveling down a dark memory lane with a barrage of questions pertaining to his dog-fighting scandal and jail time.
Another reason may be that Vick wanted to avoid possibly being demonized by Winfrey, which the talk-show host has been known to do on occasion when her celebrity guest’s public or private behavior fails to gel with her personal philosophies.
Without a definitive reason for the cancellation, many questions are now being raised about Vick. Is he still ashamed of his mired past? Does he have new skeletons in his closet? Is their bad blood between him and Winfrey?
His elusive behavior is bound to give the public a reason to question his character and Winfrey, herself, a reason to dig even deeper into both his past and his reasons for cancelling once he does make it onto her show.
Should Vick have bitten the bullet and done the interview, or was he correct in cancelling his appearance? –nicholas robinson
