Michael Sam’s NFL dreams came to a screeching halt this past weekend when the St. Louis Rams, who drafted the defensive end in the 7th round of the draft, cut him from the team just minutes before finalizing their roster. And although it seems as though his NFL dreams may be falling apart, it appears that Sam may have a surprise career in wrestling.
Yesterday, news of Sam’s NFL career became even more crushing when it was revealed that the Rams chose not to place him on their 10-man practice squad, where, had he been chosen, he could have trained with the team and eventually made his way onto the team.
Although Sam’s NFL career is now in limbo, he may have a chance at a career in professional wrestling.
According to USA Today, the WWE used their Twitter page to extend an invitation to Sam to join them on Raw next week. The WWE also wrote Sam an open letter, explaining that he’d have the chance to share his story with world on their show.
Considering how adamant Sam has been about joining the NFL, we doubt that he’ll decide to make a jump over into wrestling — at least not without trying again to make an NFL team. But it’s still good to know that Sam has career options. – nicholas robinson
