House of Trend Crowns King of the Kitchen

On Sunday, owner Larry James transformed his chic House of Trend clothing store into a battleground for himself and five other brothers, Kahil El’Zabar; Darryl Petty; B. Brown; Noah Conley; and Kobie Randolph who competed for the King of the Kitchen bragging rights.

The complimentary tasty dishes ranged from pina colada tilapia, to spicy tofu. There were no judges, because it wasn’t a cooking competition per se, nevertheless, that didn’t stop B. Brown from proclaiming that he was the winner: “There was no question,” B. Brown told rolling out. The confident cook prepared Chicago-style gumbo and black eyed peas — with an undisclosed meat base.

(Shorty Capone’s cheesecakes were to die for, by the way.)

Perhaps the coolest thing about the House of Trend is the Swap Soiree located in the rear of the store, where gently worn high-end clothes and accessories are for sale; we found a pair of red Manolo Blahniks that were priced at $30!

The House of Trend located at 688 N. Milwaukee in Chicago; for more info, call 312-226-8999.
