Fans of RuPaul, whose full name is RuPaul Andre Charles, have much to look forward to…

Per Deadline, J.J. Abrams’ production company, Bad Robot, has teamed up with the legendary drag queen’s World of Wonder for a half-hour series detailing a “fictionalized” version of the star’s journey to superstardom.

Written by “Power” executive producer Gary Lennon and co-produced by Abrams, RuPaul, will also serve as an executive producer on the dramedy, alongside others like Bad Robot’s Ben Stephenson and World of Wonder’s Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato and Tom Campbell.

The series will be filmed in New York City. As fans of the television personality may know, RuPaul, a San Diego, California, native, moved to Atlanta to study the performing arts, before settling in the Big Apple; where he became a popular fixture on the nightclub scene. A period in his life which is said to be the inspiration behind the project.

Since rising to fame on the local nightclub scene, the “American” singer has gone on to become a icon in the LGBT community as well as a television host, thanks to projects such as “The RuPaul Show,” and the ever-popular “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which has garnered guest appearances from stars like Lady Gaga, Michelle Williams, Niecy Nash, Kim Coles, Aisha Tyler, Vanessa Williams and Amber Rose.

In the meantime, the star is moving full speed ahead with the ninth season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” which is set to move from Logo to VH1 on March 24. “We got Lady Gaga!” RuPaul recently told ET. “And she is turnt-ing it … She wrote to me several years ago on Twitter, ‘Please! I want to be a judge on your show.’ And it’s taken us this long to coordinate the schedules so that she could be on.”
