It’s prom season. A time for young ladies to slay crowds with expensive prom dresses and young men to get suited and booted in fitted tuxedos. It is the season for glamorous selfies on Twitter and video take-overs for Instagram and Snapchat.
The students of Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia began the night by rolling out in style from “Ellenwood to Hollywood.” Their Blue Carpet Affair has finally arrived and for many students it is the final slay. Prom night also marks the last turn up of their high school days and the beginning of new journeys.
As a photographer for rolling out, I get to see and photograph many famous people but tonight was extra special. I had the pleasure of covering prom 2017 for two special celebs dear to me, my son Todd and his girlfriend Quinque before they headed to the Atlanta Marriott in Buckhead.
Surrounding a stretched Hummer limousine are young couples posing for paparazzi, while a mob of teary-eyed mothers and proud dads stand in the shadows. Between flashing strobes and beaming faces, I catch a glimpse of a young man in a white dinner jacket, black shirt, and burgundy vest. He is GQ sharp. His date, a beautiful young lady, is dressed like a princess, in a burgundy ruffled train dress. Smitten by his beautiful date, the camera captures a tender moment as they gaze in each other’s eyes. Viewing their image through the camera’s lens, I reflect over years gone by. Proms have not changed much. Parents still fork over wads of cash to make the evening fit for a princess and her prince. Student prom fees are still expensive, dates still look for the perfect photo opportunity, girls get flowers and dinners while they dance the night way.
