Chicago is certainly leading the way when it comes to popular culture lingo. Loosely defined as an attention-seeker, the acronym T.H.O.T. simply means, “that h– out there,” as coined by Chi-based female rapper, Katie Got Bandz. And boy have Millennials gotten creative with this term.
It’s well known that once the Internet gets ahold of something interesting, it takes a life of its own. Everyone from Chief Keef to The Game to Meek Mill is finding a way to insert the term into their lyrics. The same way “swag” took over around 2008, THOT, has created quite a stir on social media. But one must wonder: why do members of our own community continue to create and perpetuate demeaning and misogynistic identifiers? Why does glorification of problematic behavior seem to be so interesting to folks?
Private thoughts and conversations have become public with clever memes. See the gallery for what the Internet considers “thot behavior” and you decide — thot or not?
