“Empire” is the top rated new show of 2015. The hip-hop drama starring Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, was the highest rated debut on Fox since 2012 and has already been renewed for a second season. V. Bozeman’s voice opened the show as she sang her single, “What is Love?”

Bozeman recently sat down with rolling out to discuss her role on “Empire” and working on new music with Timbaland.

How did you get involved with “Empire”?

I got involved with “Empire” through Timbaland. I’m signed to Mosley Music/Epic Records. In the course of doing our album, I showed him a video that I did called “Race Jones.” He was so taken aback by it, he just said “you need to get on this show, it’s crazy and I think you’ll fit in the cast.” I didn’t really think too much of it because so many times people tell you in the industry that stuff is going to happen, and then you get married to it and then get disappointed. But a day passed and he called my manager and everything was history since then.

How does it feel to be a part of one of the top new shows of the year?

It means so much because “Empire” is a special show. It’s going to stand in its own lane. It’s going to stand on its own. Lee Daniels went all the way in; meaning he is so raw and so real and TV hasn’t seen that in such a long time. So I knew that it was going to make a big impact. I knew from the gate. Lee Daniels is so passionate about what he does and he’s very authentic when it comes to his craft. It was extremely overwhelming to be a part of a cast with people of the likes of Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, these are Academy Award nominees. Just the way they embrace me and the spirit of the cast was so special.

What can we expect from you on the music front in 2015?

I’m excited to be a part of Mosley Music and being under Timbaland. We did two albums this summer. It’s such a powerful body of work that we did and it’s really going to put an impact on the music industry, on black culture, and bringing music back. I am very proud of that project with Timbaland. I can’t wait until it comes out. I did another project, my solo project, called Music Is My Boyfriend. It’s about 80 percent done. I’m so excited about that. That’ll be coming this summer. It’s going to be a big year for Mosley Music/Epic Records.
